Abstract
Deficits in working memory (WM) are a critical subset of non-linguistic impairments associated with aphasia. Further study of the role of WM in aphasia is important for developing valid and reliable research tools and clinical assessment and treatment methods taking non-linguistic factors into account. A new eye-tracking method designed to reduce confounds inherent in existing WM tasks and incorporating natural response requirements was developed to investigate WM capacity in individuals with (n=28) and without (n=32) aphasia. Results demonstrate the validity of the method, which holds special promise for use with individuals with neurogenic language impairments.
