Abstract
Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a promising optical neuro imaging device that measures hemodynamic and metabolic changes associated with neural activity. Past studies have analyzed frontal activation during memory and verbal fluency tasks with normal persons and aphasics. This proof of concept exploratory study looked at similar tasks with persons with traumatic brain injury as compared with normals. This presentation will describe the potentiality of fNIRS as a diagnostic tool for behavioral neuroanatomical correlates and treatment monitoring.
