Abstract

Deficits in working memory (WM) are an important subset of non-linguistic deficits in aphasia (Murray, Ramage, & Hooper, 2001; Wright & Shisler, 2005). Unfortunately, the study of WM in aphasia is fraught with methodological limitations, making it challenging to draw valid conclusions regarding the role of WM capacity in general language processing in aphasia. The aim of the current study is to develop and empirically evaluate a novel WM task – the modified listening span – designed to circumvent confounds inherent in existing measures of WM in aphasia. Performance of individuals with and without aphasia is investigated.
