Abstract
This experiment compared implicit with explicit treatments in an individual with Broca’s aphasia. Overt speech, for the explicit method, was the only independent variable in this design. Stimuli were two lists of 24 verbs of comparable frequency. The explicit treatment obtained a d statistic of 7.57, medium size effect. Response to implicit treatment was clear on visual inspection and substantiated with a 6.22 d statistic. Both treatments maintained gains at 6 weeks follow-up. The implicit treatment showed a steeper and more efficient learning of verbs, as the 90% criteria over two sessions was met after 4 probe sessions.
