Abstract

Successive attempts at producing an utterance to picture stimuli have not been analyzed in-depth on the sentence level. In this presentation longitudinal oral sentence production data from a client with Broca’s aphasia will be analyzed with reference to changes in performance from pre- and post-therapy language assessments across six years with regard to improved sentence production and the gradual appearance of successive approximations at adequately describing depicted activities. The observed changes are considered in the context of improved word-finding ability and morpho-syntactic processing. The implications of our findings for specifying long-term treatment goals and for characterizing agrammatic symptomatology are discussed.
