Abstract

A chronic stroke survivor with moderate expressive aphasia and semantic and phonological impairments received Semantic Feature Analysis (SFA) treatment in accordance with Kiran and Thompson (2003). However, unlike Kiran and Thompson’s results, the participant made gains in the treated atypical category without generalization to the untreated typical category. This result concurred with that of Stanczak et. al. (2006). Stanczak et. al. showed that their patient with semantic and phonological deficits had difficulty generalizing to typical items, secondary to the phonological deficits. Therefore, presently, the participant is receiving additional phonological treatment for lexical retrieval. Results will be analyzed and discussed.
