Abstract

A Communication Confidence Rating Scale (CCRS) was developed to assess changes reported by research participants and family members following participation in a computerized aphasia treatment research study. CCRS development was based on the ASHA-Quality of Communication Life Scale, the Communication Effectiveness Index and the Self-Efficacy Scaling for Adult Stutterers. We report usefulness of the scale with eight individuals with aphasia. Participants did not show significant changes on standardized language measures; however changes on the CCRS were consistent with interview statements of increased confidence in communication situations. CCRS change was similar to the CETI and BOSS, but not the ASHA-QCL.
