Abstract

It is proposed that due to the great variability among patients with acquired apraxia of speech, the single-subject study may hold important and reliable information. Prior to this study, single-subject studies were eliminated from quantitative analysis. The use of an innovative meta-analysis technique allows for inspection of these potentially essential studies. Studies were systematically reviewed qualitatively for trends for subject characteristics, study design, methods utilized, treatment type, and effects reported, and quantitatively by statistical meta-analysis to provide statistical support and strength of confidence to qualitative information. Results could help to facilitate effective decision-making regarding AOS treatment choices by clinicians.
