Abstract
This paper examined the effectiveness of semantic feature analysis on five Cantonese anomic individuals with different underlying deficits. The two patients with mild semantic impairments showed positive outcomes with generalization to untrained items. In contrast, the subject with severe semantic deficits failed to benefit from it. One of the two patients with moderate semantic disruption did not complete the treatment, while the other did but with no change in naming untreated stimuli. The results suggest that treatment success mainly depends on the extent of semantic deficits, although post-semantic processes are also relevant factors.
