Abstract

Individuals with aphasia frequently have difficulties allocating attention required for language processing. Dual-task methods are commonly used to assess attention allocation in individuals with aphasia. Existing dual-task methods have associated confounds, especially when applied to individuals with neurological disorders. Eye tracking methods have promise for circumventing some of the confounds associated with traditional dual-task methods. A new dual-task eye-tracking method was developed to assess attention allocation during auditory linguistic processing. Twenty-seven individuals with and 30 individuals without aphasia participated. Results support the validity of the novel method to assess attention allocation in individuals with and without aphasia.
