Abstract

This study examined the production of linguistic prosody in left hemisphere damaged (LHD) and control subjects. Preliminary findings indicated that the control group produced duration, F0 and amplitude cues within prosodic structures to convey differences in lexical stress and syntactic boundaries. Whereas, the LHD group produced variations only in F0 and amplitude to convey nouns, duration to convey verbs and did not produce prosodic variations in syllables located at syntactic junctures. The productions of both groups will be played for listeners to determine if the acoustic patterns are adequate to convey differences in nouns and verbs and syntactic boundaries.
