Script Training and Automaticity in Two Individuals with Aphasia. In Clinical Aphasiology Conference: Clinical Aphasiology Conference (2004 : 34th : Park City, UT : May 2004) / : (2004).

Abstract

A script training approach to aphasia treatment was investigated for two aphasic
individuals with moderate to severe expressive speech difficulty. Subjects successfully
acquired short scripts of four to five sentences in length. Error production decreased
dramatically and speaking rate increased dramatically with script learning. Subjects
displayed the ability to use acquired scripts flexibly in conversation with novel partners.
Script learning is presented as a functional approach to aphasia treatment, in which
automatic, effortless production of scripted speech is the goal.
