Abstract
This paper will address the content and process aspects to be incorporated into clinical
education when training the clinician to work with aphasia in a cross- linguistic context.
A single session with a Zulu-speaking client and her family which was mediated by an
interpreter will be reported. The goals of clinical teaching will be discussed and the
session analyzed from the perspective of the participants, the observers and the
supervisor. Conversation analysis as a technique for highlighting the dynamics of the
interview will be discussed and some implications derived for effective training of
culturally sensitive aphasia clinicians.
