Learning by Individuals with Dementia: The Effects of Spaced-Retrieval Training
Learning by Individuals with Dementia: The Effects of Spaced-Retrieval Training. In Clinical Aphasiology Conference: Clinical Aphasiology Conference (2004 : 34th : Park City, UT : May 2004) / : (2004).
The purpose of this project was to assess the effects of spaced-retrieval (SR) training on
learning of new and previously known associations by individuals with dementia. Thirty-
three individuals received treatment in two conditions: one in which the recall intervals
were filled with activities unrelated to the information being learned and one in which the
intervals were filled with related activities. Response to treatment was analyzed in
relation to type of SR training, type of information being learned, and cognitive-
communication function. Results of this study will help answer important questions
related to learning and rehabilitation of individuals with dementia.
