The purpose of this research was to identify information needs perceived by family members of persons with aphasia. Focus group interviews were conducted to identify information needed at three points: at onset of aphasia (hospitalization), during initial rehabilitation, and during chronic phases of aphasia. Sixteen subjects participated in the study. The analysis revealed distinctive thematic information needed at each stage of aphasia. Clinical implications and recommendations for family education will be presented.
