The effects of name agreement on picture-naming reaction times were examined in a dual-task experiment. The effects were investigated in relation to the central bottleneck (CB) model and compared to the semantic picture-word interference effect. Tone identification was the primary task. Picture naming was the secondary task. Average picture-naming reaction times were longer in the low than high name agreement condition across levels of stimulus onset asynchrony. The results demonstrate a locus of the name agreement effect at the central, response selection stage of the CB model, which is distinct from the previously demonstrated pre-central effect of semantic picture-word interference.
